The second clip is head coach Gary Gaines addressing the team during the same halftime of the championship game. This is right before the team is to head back out to the field. He asks his players if they can be perfect. He goes on to say that being perfect is not about the scoreboard or winning. Its about the players relationship with themselves and those around them. He knows how hard his team has worked to be in this position but he wants to see them achieve more than winning a state championship. He wants them to achieve in life. He shows great leadership in caring for his players and knows that there is more to life than winning games. He ends his speech by saying that his heart is full because of his players.

I almost went with this as my clip for the leadership mode! Friday Night Lights is a great movie that exhibits many great leadership theories. When you challenge someone to be better you are exhibiting excellent leadership qualities. Ivory stepped up to the plate and challenged his team.
ReplyDeleteBeing a High School coach your job is so much more then winning football games. You are there to mold young men into bring great football players but even better people. Coach Gaines did exactly that and another example of a great leader but giving his players a purpose. Good Post!
I chose the second clip as my leadership model. FNL easily makes the top 5 in my movie list. There are several leadership theories within this film. Coach Gaines exhibts just about every component of the Relational Leadership Theory. Coaching, especially high school kids is much more than winning or losing, it's about developing strong character that will ultimately mold them into the best man they can be. Coach Gaines impacted every kid on the team, and the majority went on to be successful young men. Whether it was continuing their career or working a 9-5.Great post!
